Carbon Fiber Vs Graphite Fishing Rod |
Fishing rod materials
A long time ago -as the movie said- bamboo was used as a support for fishing rods. The flexibility and resistance of the material, as well as its natural arrangement, made it gain followers.
Currently the rods are manufactured following industrial techniques and combined materials are used to offer the best casts on each occasion.
- Fiberglass - gave rise to the new fishing rods made from synthetic materials. They offer some flexibility, at the expense of greater weight. Even so, it is still among the favorites for more than one.
- Carbon fiber or graphite : lighter rods and preferred in the rod holder of every hobby angler. Although there are still people who are reluctant to use them due to the electrical conductivity of carbon. Of course they are the most advisable when the rod takes a certain length.
Types of rod according to the type of fishing
The different types of rod respond to criteria such as flexibility, power, action, resistance and weight, in addition to the material. Depending on these characteristics can be seen rods intended for various types of fishing.
- Spinning : brings together a set of rods determined by great sensitivity and very little weight. Light artificial lures are often used in fishing for trout, sea bream and similar caliber species. On a boat they are useful in short casts.
- Surf Fishing : or rock fishing. Indicated for casts in areas with strong currents and breakers. It is a very light rod in which weights of up to 200 grams are used.
- Breakwater: used to fish on piers and breakwaters, as well as in swamps and places with calm and shallow water. It is classified within the slow rods.
- Baitcasting: Similar to the spinning rod, but this is used with artificial lures designed to mimic the movements of a live bait. It is a short rod, around two meters long, with guides at a short distance, to prevent the line from being mounted in the cast.
- Coast rods: rods of 3 meters with which casts are achieved from the shore of 50 meters on average. It is thoroughly fished, although it is also common to use it on breakwaters.
- Fly Cast : the traditional fly fishing used in inland waters. They are high quality rods with great casting precision.
Thanks to the proliferation of manufacturers, rod models multiply every year, like the tastes of fans, who find countless options in specialized catalogs.
